Professional Learning Team (PLT) Wednesdays!
Every Wednesday this year your school will start one hour late. Bus pickups will also be one hour later than normal on Wednesdays. This schedule begins on the very first Wednesday, Sept. 8.
On Wednesdays…
Elementary Schools will begin at 10 a.m.
Middle Schools will begin at 9 a.m.
David Douglas High School will begin at 9 a.m.
PLT Wednesdays will allow your teachers and school staff to meet in Professional Learning Teams for one hour each week to plan and put in place school improvement and student achievement strategies. They will be carefully examining student achievement data and using it to make sure their instruction best helps your student succeed in school.
Budget reduced, Wednesday late start approved - Update
The David Douglas School Board closed a $4.4 million gap in the District’s 2010-11 budget by spending down reserves, reducing funding for the District’s PERS debt fund and instituting a hiring freeze on most open positions created through attrition and administrative transfers.
Superintendent Don Grotting told the Board that no employee currently holding a position would be laid off to balance the current budget. But he also cautioned that state funding is unlikely to improve over the next two years. The District continues to spend more than it receives in revenues and because much of the budget gap was closed using one-time funds and transfers, future budget cuts are likely.
Greetings from our new Superintendent
David Douglas community,
I am honored that your School Board put its trust in me to lead this School District, and I am excited for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The one promise I will make to you is this: Every decision I make will be based entirely on what is best for our students.
As the product of a working class community in Southwest Oregon where education was not always a priority, I know how critical it is that we as a staff, and you as community members and parents, instill in our students the value of education. In this day and age, it is the surest path to a successful and productive life.
Free swim lessons for eligible David Douglas students

The facts are sobering: children from non-swimming households are eight times more likely to be at-risk for drowning; in ethnically-diverse communities, the youth drowning rate is 2-3 times higher than the national average. Motivated by newly released information from USA Swimming, Mt. Hood Aquatic Center has joined forces with the Mt. Hood Aquatics swim team, East County Head Start, and the David Douglas and Reynolds school districts to provide free swim lessons to hundreds of children, and water safety education to thousands.
