New School Ratings Released

The State of Oregon has released results of its new ratings system for schools, a change as a result of Oregon receiving a waiver from the federal No Child Left Behind law. The new ratings system puts schools, based on academic performance, into one of 5 tiers. In addition, the state identified the lowest performing schools as either Priority schools or Focus schools, meaning those schools will receive additional attention in helping them improve.

On the other end of the spectrum, schools in low-income areas that were rated in top tier were declared Model schools and will be asked to share academic achievement strategies with other schools. David Douglas was one of only two school districts in Multnomah County with no Priority or Focus schools, as well as having a Model school. Alice Ott Middle School was identified as one of only a handful of Model schools in Oregon.
