HOW TO ENROLL YOUR CHILD IN SCHOOL
STEP 1 Determine the student's eligibility
Children between the age of 5 and 19 residing in the David Douglas School District are eligible for enrollment in a district school. Students age 5 on or before September 1 are eligible for enrollment in kindergarten. Students whose 19th birthday occurs during the school year are eligible for the remainder of the school year.
STEP 2 Identify and contact the school Registration occurs at the student's local school. If you are not sure what school your student should attend based on your residence, you can look on the school boundaries link, View school boundary maps or click on the link below to look up school information by your address. School look-up For information about bus routes, the Transportation department can be contacted at 503-256-6526.
STEP 3 Verify age, residency, and immunization compliance If you are interested in having your child considered for Early Entry into Kindergarten or Grade 1: View Early Entry Guidelines
Kindergarten Please visit the elementary school (Grades K-5) in your attendance area. You will need to provide verification of the student's age (birth certificate, hospital certificate or other legal identification), proof of your residence address (utility bill, property tax statement, home insurance statement, etc.) and immunization record. Grades 1-8 Please visit the elementary (Grades K-5) or middle school (Grades 6-8) in your attendance area. You will be asked to complete paperwork that includes a release form to allow your student's previous school to forward his/her records. Please bring proof of residence documents with you (examples above). If a 1st grade student is entering school for the first time a verification of age and immunization record will also be required.
High School Please telephone the high school (503-261-8300) and make an appointment with a counselor to register your student. You will be asked to complete paperwork for the release of student records from the previous school and to provide proof of residency.
If you have any special documentations related to the child's school experience, such as an Individualized Education Program or Court Orders for child custody, please bring them when you enroll your student.
