The David Douglas School District communicates news, information and emergency notifications through a variety of platforms. Use these options, not only to keep tabs on the latest news but also to ensure your family receives school closure and emergency notifications. View winter school procedures here.

SchoolMessenger System: Email, Phone and Text Messages

The District regularly conveys information to families via email, through the School Messenger system. Please make sure your school office has your current email address to ensure you receive these communications.

Most David Douglas families are familiar with the recorded phone messages sent out from their school or from the District. But did you also know you can get those messages as texts in addition to the phone messages? But you must opt-in to get the texts.

Any parent whose cell phone is registered as a primary contact in their student’s records can opt in by texting Y to 68453. They can also opt out by texting N to the same number. Users who receive the error message “Short code blocked” need to contact their cell phone carrier to unblock short codes. Texting and data fees may apply. DDSD does not pay for messages received from SchoolMessenger. Please check with your wireless carrier if you are unsure about possible fees. If you have questions about SchoolMessenger, please contact your school office.

District Website

Used for school closures and emergency notifications
In the event of a weather closure, power outage or other emergency, the District’s website will have a red banner message across the top alerting to the emergency. Clicking on that headline will take you to an article with additional information.

Facebook and Twitter

Used for school closures and emergency notifications
David Douglas School District maintains both a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Any emergency messages will also be broadcast on these two social media platforms. Just go to your Facebook or Twitter accounts and follow David Douglas School District. More commonly, our Facebook and Twitter feeds are used to provide daily posts about what’s going on in David Douglas, so it’s a great way to keep up with what our schools are doing.

FlashAlert Newswire and Messenger

Used for school closures and emergency notifications
FlashAlert is the system David Douglas and other districts use to get weather closures and other emergency messages out to the media. When you watch the crawl at the bottom of the TV screen during a snowstorm, that is coming from FlashAlert.

But you can also subscribe free to FlashAlert Messenger, and receive those messages from David Douglas straight to your email, phone, Facebook page and/or Twitter account. Visit FlashAlert’s website to learn more and subscribe. View the David Douglas page on the FlashAlert site.

Email Via ParentVue

The District and your student’s school does have the ability to use ParentVue to send emails to parents. You must have a ParentVue account, and the school must have your email on record. Check to make sure your school’s office has your current email address. If you do not have a ParentVue account, please contact your student’s school and get one.

This email method is not ideal in a real emergency, as the system sends the emails in batches every hour or so. Email is likely to be used in more routine communication. In a real emergency, depend on one of the other options listed above.

Key Communicators

About once a month, the District’s communication office sends an email out to anyone who signs up for it containing brief updates and news from around the District, including links to more information about those topics.
