The David Douglas School Board has issued a resolution declaring Monday, Oct. 14 as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, recognizing the significant contributions to our society and our District by Native Americans. Today, we celebrate and commemorate their histories and their cultures and recognize the Native community that thrives in our own city of Portland.
More than 1,000 students in David Douglas, or 10% of all District students, self-identify as American Indian or Alaskan Native. These students can trace their roots to native cultures that originated throughout South America, Central America and North America.
Please join us in recognizing these cultures and celebrating our families and students who proudly carry them forward. The School Board’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day Resolution is linked below.
