Black History Month
David Douglas School District recognizes and celebrates the excellence and contributions of our Black students, staff, and community members. We honor Black History Month and appreciate the rich history, culture, and countless contributions of Black individuals who have shaped our world.
Did you know?
A National Celebration: Black History Month was first recognized in 1976 by President Gerald Ford. He encouraged all Americans to:
“seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”— President Gerald Ford, 1976
Why February?: This month was chosen because it marks the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two key figures in the fight against slavery and for civil rights.
Across our schools, students are learning about leaders, artists, scientists, and activists whose ideas, creativity, and courage have shaped our country and continue to inspire change today.

National School Counseling Week: February 2-6
At David Douglas School District, we are incredibly proud of our exceptional school counselors. They help students explore their unique strengths and talents while working closely with them to nurture social, emotional, and academic growth.
We join the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) in celebrating National School Counseling Week. This is a special time to highlight the critical role these professionals play in cultivating student success and well-being.

Lunar New Year: February 17
Lunar New Year, often referred to as the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year, is the most important annual holiday celebrated in many Asian countries and communities worldwide. To honor this vibrant tradition, the School District is excited to invite our students, families, and staff to celebrate the Year of the Horse!

The DDHS Asian Student Union is hosting a special community event, and we invite you to join us for an evening of culture, connection, and celebration.

February Try It Tuesday!
Try It Tuesday is a monthly opportunity for students to try a culturally specific cuisine. This February, our Nutrition Services Department prepared a chocolaty treat: a brownie sweetened with beets grown at Full Cellar Farm in Boring, Oregon. Our students loved it!
Our Nutrition Services
In partnership with the National School Lunch Program, David Douglas School District provides nutritious, USDA-aligned meals to all students. Our breakfast and lunch menus feature fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and milk. By collaborating with local farms and businesses, we are proud to incorporate high-quality, locally sourced products into our daily offerings.
