There are some important dates and deadlines to be aware of depending on the grade of your incoming child. Please see the following important information on enrollment.
How to Enroll Your Child in School
STEP 1: Determine the student’s eligibility
Children between the age of 5 and 19 residing in the David Douglas School District are eligible for enrollment in a District school. Students age 5 on or before September 1 are eligible for enrollment in kindergarten. Students whose 19th birthday occurs during the school year are eligible for the remainder of the school year.
STEP 2: Identify and contact the school
Registration occurs at the student’s local school. Schools office open for registrations in late August. If you are not sure what school your student should attend based on your residence, you can view school boundary maps, or look up school information by your address (click here to view). STEP 3: Verify age, residency, and immunization compliance
If you are interested in having your child considered for Early Entry into Kindergarten or Grade 1, view Early Entry Guidelines here.
Kindergarten: Please visit the elementary school (grades K-5) in your attendance area. You will need to provide verification of the student’s age (birth certificate, hospital certificate or other legal identification), proof of your residence address (utility bill, property tax statement, home insurance statement, etc.) and immunization record.
Grades 1-8: Please visit the elementary (grades K-5) or middle school (grades 6-8) in your attendance area. You will be asked to complete paperwork that includes a release form to allow your student’s previous school to forward his/her records. Please bring proof of residence documents with you (utility bill, property tax statement, home insurance statement, etc.). If a 1st grade student is entering school for the first time, a verification of age and immunization record will also be required.
High School: Please telephone the high school (503-261-8300) and make an appointment with a counselor to register your student. You will be asked to complete paperwork for the release of student records from the previous school and to provide proof of residency. If you have any special documentation related to the child’s school experience, such as an Individualized Education Program or court orders for child custody, please bring them when you enroll your student.
Inter-District Transfers – Requests for Release
The David Douglas School Board has approved releasing 50 new applicants to other districts for Fall 2017 through inter-district transfer. The deadline to apply is August 1, after which there will be a lottery drawing to determine which applications will be approved and forwarded to the requested district for consideration. Priority will be given to continuing students and their siblings. Call the Superintendent’s Office at 503-261-8201 to request an application.
