David Douglas Music Program Honored

Every year the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) recognizes districts across the nation as the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME). David Douglas School District is among the 476 districts named this year. Four Oregon districts were honored.

This accolade recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who work together to ensure access to music learning for all students as part of the school curriculum. This year, the honor has additional significance due to the new federal education law passed in December 2015. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) designates music as a recommended subject and as part of “a well-rounded education.”

This is the 6th time our District has received BCME recognition. There are so many in our community who contribute to the success of our music program at David Douglas. Our achievements would not be possible without our dedicated staff, parents, school board, community members and students.

A huge thanks to our music teachers! Many of our students would never be exposed to music education without you. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to providing a comprehensive music education for all our students!

Our School Board also deserves much appreciation, as it has long held dear our music tradition and even in the worst of financial times has preserved and protected it.

Thank you to all who are involved in making our District music programs one of the best in the nation!
