Shawna Myers, a DDHS counselor, just returned from an exciting trip to Washington D.C.
Shawna was invited to participate in the 2016 “Beating the Odds” Summit. The event, led by first lady Michelle Obama, focused on strategies to help more students successfully transition to and complete college. The annual summit hosted 130 first generation college-bound students from across the country.
As a counselor at DDHS, Shawna is dedicated to coming up with new and creative ways to present college information to our students. She works hard to make sure they all have access to the best resources. At the summit, she led a breakout session for students and met the first lady!
Shawna, you’ve made David Douglas so proud! Thank you for all the hard work you do for our students and community. You help so many students leave high school on a successful path!
At the summit, the students were offered advice during a discussion panel. View video of the discussion.
