Dress Code – During the September School Board meeting, a District parent addressed the Board with concerns about the District’s dress code. She is concerned that the code is not enforced equitably, that it discriminates against and objectifies female students. She proposed that the District consider adoption of a more neutral dress code developed by Oregon NOW.
During its special Oct. 5 Board meeting, the School Board heard a presentation by Oregon NOW about its dress code. During its Oct. 19 Board meeting, the School Board heard from District school administrators about the current dress code, how it’s enforced, how well it’s working and the reasoning behind it. The Board continues to study the issue, including holding future community listening sessions about the topic. You can see the District’s current dress code contained in the Students Rights and Responsibilities handbook here: https://www.ddouglas.k12.or.us/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/SRR-handbook-6-16-16.pdf
