We are pleased to announce that Michael Contreras has been selected as the new principal of Ron Russell Middle school. He will assume the role on July 1, 2019.

Contreras was named as the successor to departing principal Thu Truong, who is leaving for a new position after two years as RRMS principal. This week during a meeting, Ron Russell staff had the opportunity to meet their new principal and ask him questions about his experience, his values, and his high expectations for the future RRMS.

Contreras began his education career in 1999 as a math teacher at Fremont Union High School in California and later moved to the Hillsboro School District. In 2006 he became an instructional coach and math teacher in the Forest Grove School District. Since 2014 Contreras has been employed by the Salem Keizer School District as Assistant Principal at North Salem High School.

In 1998, Contreras earned his BS Degree in mathematics at Santa Clara University and in 2011 he earned his MS Degree at Pacific University. He currently holds a Preliminary Administrator’s License.

Contreras has many years in the education field and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the David Douglas School District. We are very excited to welcome him to our administrative team.

A big thanks to Principal Truong for her time and contributions here in our DDSD community. We wish her the best of luck on her next endeavor. And welcome aboard Principal Contreras!
