Dear David Douglas Families,
Today, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown announced that all schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year, through June 15. This announcement is not a surprise, as many other states throughout the United States have taken the same step, and we now know the coronavirus COVID-19 virus is very likely to continue circulating into the summer months, at least.
We know this is a tremendous hardship for our families, for our students, for our staff and for our community. But we also know the highest priority is to come together to save lives by staying home.
Our doors are closed, but learning does not stop. Our fast-developing plan for Distance Learning for All will continue through the school year. We will not abandon our students or our families. Teachers will continue teaching, and students will continue learning. At this moment, teachers are creating online lesson plans, offline lessons for those who do not have online access, and developing other means to stay in touch with and care for their students.
Distance Learning for All begins next week. This is new for you, and it’s new for us. We are going to make mistakes, but we will all learn together and continue to get better. Patience with each other will be important.
We will continue to provide daily free meals for students. Our community food pantries will remain open. Our communication with you will remain constant. With your help, our students will continue to Grow, Learn and Thrive.
