David Douglas community:

We need your help to create our long-term future.

The David Douglas School District is embarking on a facility planning process. We value a collaborative process with our community to determine how our schools could be improved to best support our students’ learning over the next years and decades.

If you reside in our District, would you consider serving on the Facilities Planning Committee to represent our students, staff, parents and community in this work? This will be a participatory process held primarily over the next couple of months. 

In the course of four evening workshops, we will review data, discuss various options, prioritize needed facility improvements and present a draft plan to the School Board in October. Following a final workshop, we will present a final plan to the School Board in December. The Board will then make the final determination of our path moving forward.

Some of the topics we will discuss include the physical needs of our buildings, safety and security, student enrollment projections in relation to the capacities of all of our schools, how our facilities can better support the student learning experience and our educational programs, and the role our schools play in supporting our communities.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will begin as a virtual process, with all meetings held remotely via conference calls. Members will need to have a computer with a video camera (so you can see documents and drawings displayed in the meetings) and Internet access.

Our Workshops will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • May 19, 2020 — Workshop 1
  • June 2, 2020 — Workshop 2
  • September 22, 2020 — Workshop 3
  • September 29, 2020 – Community Outreach
  • October 13, 2020 — Workshop 4
  • October 22, 2020 — Draft Plan Presentation to the School Board
  • November 17, 2020 — Workshop 5 (tentative)
  • December 10, 2020 — Recommended Facilities Plan Presentation to the School Board
