To our David Douglas Elementary Families,
Spring Break is just around the corner, and we are hoping that you and your students will have time next week to refresh, relax and enjoy time together.
As you know, we are reopening our elementary schools for in-person instruction after Spring Break. We wanted to share with you now what the schedule will look like in the days and weeks following Spring Break.
Our elementary staff will be in our schools the week of March 29 training and preparing for the safe return of students. All staff must receive training in a variety of safety protocols such as:
- Identifying the signs and symptoms of COVID-19
- How to screen both themselves and students
- Knowing the logistical, operational and physical changes to their specific building to ensure safe cohorting and physical distancing, including where each cohort enters and exits, hallway directional flows, restroom assignments, cohort classroom assignments, etc.
- Proper use of PPE equipment
- School-wide response to a symptomatic student or staff member
- Cleaning and sanitizing
- Operation of the isolation space
Therefore, on Monday and Tuesday, March 29-30, there will be no school for students, including Comprehensive Distance Learning. All staff will be receiving training on these dates. On Wednesday and Thursday, March 31 and April 1, all students will be in shortened CDL, while Friday, April 2 will be a regular online applied learning day.
On Monday, April 5, we will be excited to welcome our first cohort of in-person elementary students back into our buildings. This is a day we’ve all been eagerly awaiting since last Spring. Please see the schedule below.
For families returning for in-person learning, your child’s school will be contacting you by this Friday about your student’s cohort assignment and which days and times they will be coming to school. Families remaining in CDL will also receive their new online schedules.
Meanwhile, we are also planning for our secondary students to return for in-person instruction the week of April 19, per the Governor’s orders.
We are doing everything in our power to ensure that we have a smooth and safe transition back to in-person learning. As always, the health and safety of your student and our staff will be our top priority, and our all-staff training during the week following Spring Break are intended for that purpose.
Please enjoy your Spring Break, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your school if you have questions.
