The David Douglas School Board has selected a new school board member to complete the final two years of the unexpired term of former Board member Sahar Muranovic. Muranovic recently moved out of the District and was unable to complete her 4-year term.
The Board selected Gabriela Saldana-Lopez, a proud graduate of David Douglas High School who has worked in recent years as a community organizer in East Portland.
Gabriela has a double BA from the University of Oregon in Planning, Public Policy and Management; and International Studies with a concentration in nonprofit administration, graduating in 2017.
Since then, she has served as an AmeriCorps Member and worked for SE Uplift Neighborhood Coalition and for OPAL Environmental Justice.
“I bring a deep passion for education and ensuring that students have a successful future,” she said. “I am excited to join the David Douglas School Board to serve students and their families.”
She grew up in the community, attending Gilbert Heights Elementary, Alice Ott Middle School and David Douglas High School, graduating in 2012. She was very active in high school and remains involved, often attending local school performances and events, including the graduation of relatives. She spent time last year helping a younger sister complete her senior year at DDHS online during the pandemic.
Gabriela will be sworn in during the School Board meeting on November 18th, 2021 at 7:00pm. The current term of office runs through the 2022-23 school year.
