Dear David Douglas School District Families,
To enhance bus rider safety, we are implementing a few updates for bus riders. Beginning in fall 2022, to ride the bus, students must be registered for bus services and carry a badge.
This program is designed to enhance bus rider safety by giving the Transportation Department the ability to track when and where each student gets on and off a district school bus.
As part of the Bus Pass Program, the district has partnered with a company called Zonar to provide passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards or badges as the district standard bus pass. These cards will be scanned as students enter and exit the bus, recording the card number, location and time. This information can be accessed by select district staff as well as parents by using a Ridership Alerts App from Zonar called the ZPass+. If you are interested in using the ZPass+ Ridership Alerts App, you must first register for a ZPass+ account. As part of the registration process, you will need to enter the number on the back of your student’s bus pass. Once you are registered, you will be able to download and begin using the App.
Beginning in October, district bus drivers will issue Bus Passes along with lanyards and backpack straps to students currently riding a district school bus. Students will receive their initial Bus Pass free of charge. In the event of a lost Bus Pass, the student or parent will need to immediately call the Transportation office at (503) 256-6526 to request a replacement Pass. The first replacement Pass will be free, however additional replacement Passes may result in a $3.00 replacement fee. Students who lose their Bus Pass will be required to get a temporary one each day from the school office until they receive a replacement Bus Pass.
Students who arrive at the bus stop in the morning without their Bus Pass will be allowed to ride the bus to their school. However, in order to ride the bus home in the afternoon, they will need to get a temporary Bus Pass at the school office. Please help us by making sure that your student has their Bus Pass when they head to the bus stop each morning.
The Bus Pass will serve all students using district provided transportation services. However, parents as well as students age 14 and older may opt out of the electronic tracking capabilities of the Bus Pass Program. To opt out of the electronic tracking, you will need to complete the Bus Pass Electronic Tracking Opt Out Form available here on the district transportation website. This form can be returned to your student’s school, the Transportation Office located at 2904 SE 122nd Ave., or emailed to schoolbus@ddsd40.org. It is important to note that even if you elect to opt out of the electronic tracking portion of the program, your student will still need to use their Bus Pass to get on the school bus.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Transportation at 503-256-6526 or schoolbus@ddsd40.org.
Thank you for your support.
