February is Black History Month, and in David Douglas we like to educate to celebrate.
This year, for Black History Month (BHM), our BHM planning team will be upholding the theme of celebrating how our educators see and support students. Resources will be provided around Black History, classroom lessons and additional support to uplift the voices of our Black/African American community/families/students/staff.
Take a look at our first Black History Month slide deck displayed below. Learn why Black History matters in Oregon; find some age-appropriate literary resources; explore a variety of our own, local, black-owned businesses; see where you can celebrate this month at a wide array of local Black History Month events.
Many thanks to the Equity Teams at Ventura Park Elementary and Alice Ott Middle School for pulling together these resources and creating these slides.
Watch this space for additional informational slides coming later in February.
