Please join the David Douglas School District this May in celebration of Asian-American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.
We have a diversity of students from varied and rich cultural traditions who identify as AAPI, making up about 18% of our enrollment, or some 1,700 students.
Our Asian-American/Pacific Islander families contribute to a districtwide wealth of diversity that is among the most broad and varied in the state of Oregon. This cultural diversity is one of David Douglas’ greatest strengths.
Please take some time this month to check out the many resources that will be shared with our staff to help teach students about AAPI Heritage. Our intent is to highlight and uplift our AAPI students and families and ensure their visibility and belonging within our community.
We hope we can all find ways to celebrate and center the stories and experiences of our AAPI students, families and staff members this month.
Please explore the linked slides graciously created and shared by the Gilbert Park Elementary and West Powellhurst Elementary equity teams. These teams will share additional slides each week of May, so please return to this space throughout the month to enjoy them.
