Along with receiving his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Human Development at Warner Pacific University’s commencement ceremony last weekend, Grow Your Own student Robert Harris was named the 2023 recipient of the Wilma I. Perry Award. The honor recognizes a Professional and Graduate Studies student who demonstrates a life of service, academic excellence, integrity and transformation.

Warner Pacific University is honored to announce Robert E. Harris, Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Human Development, as the 2023 recipient of the Wilma I. Perry Award. Robert has served students in a variety of roles with the David Douglas School District over the past two decades, impacting countless lives through his passionate, individualized approach. As a student and as a leader, he champions and encourages all students to find their voices and tackle challenges so they can reach their full potential. Robert plans to continue with his Master of Arts in Teaching Degree this summer in order to become a classroom teacher. This award is given in recognition of Robert’s excellence in the classroom and his life of service.
Robert has been a campus monitor at Fir Ridge for 19 years. Now pursuing his masters in education at Warner Pacific, he’s part of Grow Your Own, a David Douglas School District program that recruits and mentors community members and classified staff of color to become teachers in the District. Next year, Robert will be a student teacher in social studies.
