Juneteenth: Freedom Day

Community 3 handprints

We recognize that Juneteenth is on June 19th. It is the acknowledgement of the abolishment of slavery, which actually took place over 2 years after Abraham Lincoln declared all enslaved persons free. It is now a federal holiday and considered independence day by many within the Black community. Acknowledging our history in its accuracy can help us keep from repeating it. This slideshow provides some historical information about Juneteenth and its importance.
