The David Douglas School Board has appointed a new member to complete the final year of former Board Chair Donna Barber’s term (Position 1). Barber relocated out of state and could not fulfill the remainder of her term.

The Board has selected Althea Ender, a familiar figure in the David Douglas community. Althea has served as a David Douglas Soccer Club coach and is an actively engaged parent at Ventura Park. In Spring 2024, she volunteered as a coach for her 6-year-old’s soccer team, the Batwings, and currently serves as the Assistant Coach for her 4-year-old’s team, the Pickle Goats. Both teams practice and hold their games at Cherry Park Elementary.

Althea is currently an attorney at Kivel & Howard LLP and has previously contributed to Know Your Rights trainings, Temporary Restraining Order hearings, and the preparation of clients for Credible Fear immigration interviews. Althea is also conversational in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.

Althea Ender was sworn in during the September 12, 2024, School Board meeting. By Board policy, Althea Ender will serve until June 2025, the next election year. An election will be held in May 2025, and the winner will begin a new four-year term starting on July 1, 2025.
