Below is a list of events and important dates during the month of February!
February is Black History Month!
At the David Douglas School District, we are thrilled to celebrate our incredible Black students, staff, and community members. Join us on February 24th to commemorate Black History Month at our Black Excellence Showcase.
This month, we honor the rich history, culture, and countless contributions of Black individuals that have shaped our world.
Did you know?
- Black History Month was first recognized in 1976 by President Gerald Ford, who encouraged Americans to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
- February was chosen because it marks the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two key figures in the fight against slavery.
Join us as we celebrate, learn, and reflect on the incredible stories and achievements of the Black community. Together, we can build a brighter, more inclusive future!

National School Counseling Week: February 3-7
At David Douglas School District, we are proud to have exceptional school counselors who support students in exploring their strengths, interests, and talents. They work closely with families and staff to help students grow socially, emotionally, and academically while preparing for the future.
National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), celebrates the critical role school counselors play in student success.
Please take a moment to thank our hardworking counselors—they make a lasting difference in the lives of our students.
Thank you, DDSD Counselors!
