David Douglas are State Champions!

News

The David Douglas High School Theater group just returned from the Oregon State Thespian Competition and Festival this past weekend with some exciting news to share.

Michael Givler—our DDHS Theater teacher, was recognized as the Oregon Theater Teacher of the Year, a well-deserved honor that highlights his outstanding leadership and impact on students.

In addition to this recognition, our talented student performers and technicians brought home several top awards:

  • One of our students was named the Oregon State Champion in Solo Acting, earning first place in a highly competitive category that included over 360 participants from across the state.
  • Our Tech Challenge Team, consisting of four DDHS students, had an impressive 2nd place finish, showcasing their creativity, collaboration, and technical skill.
  • A Student-Directed One-Act Play: “The Nine Worst Breakups of All Time”, directed by two DDHS students and performed by 17 cast members (DDHS students), received a Superior Rating, just two points shy of a perfect score. The ensemble delivered a powerful performance that highlighted both their talent and dedication on stage and behind the scenes.
  • One of our students also designed the set for a production of Salomé by Oscar Wilde, which received strong reviews for its creativity and execution.

All 29 students who attended the festival had the opportunity to spend three days participating in workshops on acting, directing, and theater tech, all led by professional artists.

Let’s take a moment to celebrate the incredible hard work and success of our amazing students and their dedicated teacher! Your perseverance, teamwork, and commitment have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder. Thank you for representing our school with excellence. Way to go, Scots!
