David Douglas School District is proud to announce that Brynn Richardson has been honored as a 2026 School Lunch Hero by the Newman’s Own Foundation. Brynn is one of only 10 recipients selected nationwide.
Nominated by the Oregon Farm to School Network, Brynn was recognized for her commitment to “cultural relevance” in school meals. Over her five-year career, she has introduced diverse dishes such as taro root stir fry and kimchi to ensure students see their own food traditions reflected on the menu. These new items are often introduced through the Try It Tuesday initiative, where students taste local and culturally diverse foods.
Professional Leadership
Brynn’s work is supported by her participation in the Oregon Farm to School Institute, a year-long collaborative program for nutrition staff and educators. She utilizes these community resources to build sustainable, local food programs for our students.
Commitment to Food Justice
Brynn defines food justice as ensuring students feel represented by the meals they receive. “Food justice to me means that our students feel a sense of representation from the foods they’re served at school,” she shared.
