Welcome to May!
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month
David Douglas School District celebrates every student, staff and family member who identifies as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander. We recognize the vibrant cultures, histories, and contributions of AANHPI communities and are proud of the rich diversity that strengthens our entire district.
We know that culture is beautiful and complex. Our new series, The Douglas Take, aims to showcase our community.
Watch the preview in the May Happenings of David Douglas High School students discussing their heritage. The full version of this episode will be later this month.

National Principal’s Day: May 1
We honor the visionary leaders at the heart of our schools. Our principals do so much more than manage buildings; they inspire staff, support families, and create safe environments where every student can learn, grow, and thrive. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication, resilience, and the steady guidance they provide to the David Douglas community.
School Lunch Hero Day: May 1
Our schools would not be the same without the incredible members of our Nutrition Services team. From the early morning preparation to the busy lunch rush, these dedicated professionals ensure every student is fueled with healthy, nourishing meals. Though their efforts begin before the first bell, the energy they provide is felt in our classrooms and throughout our district all day long.
Teacher Appreciation Week: May 4-8
Our district is honoring the extraordinary teachers of David Douglas! Our teachers do more than just teach the curriculum. Every day, our educators show up with passion, creativity, and a deep commitment to helping students learn, grow, and thrive. They have a lasting impact and influence on our students’ lives.
We are sincerely grateful for the dedication they provide to our community.
National School Nurse Day: May 6
Our school nurses at David Douglas support the health and well-being of every student. They are essential to student success, ensuring that health barriers never stand in the way of learning. We applaud their tireless work and the specialized care they provide to our school buildings every day.
Speech Pathologist Day: May 18
Our dedicated David Douglas speech-language pathologists are vital members of our student support teams. They empower students by helping them build the essential communication skills needed to succeed both in the classroom and beyond. Their consistent support leads to powerful results, allowing students to communicate with clarity, interact socially, and grow in their academic confidence.
