Welcome to June!
Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride Month
The David Douglas School District supports and celebrates our LGBTQ+ students, staff, and families. As we celebrate Pride, we recognize the diverse voices in our community. We also understand the real difficulties that LGBTQ+ people still experience, and we continue our daily work to create equity, acceptance, and safety for everyone.
Our Every Student Belongs policy guides this work. We are dedicated to building a school district where every person is safe and successful.

The last day of school is almost here! As this school year comes to a close, we want to extend a huge thank you to our students, families, and staff for making it so special. Your hard work and support mean everything to our community. Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer break. See you all this fall!
Juneteenth: June 19
The David Douglas School District honors Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and the delayed fulfillment of the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation.
Designated a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth is also known as “Freedom Day.” Many in the Black community celebrate it as a true Independence Day that honors the enduring struggle for equality.
Let’s celebrate the profound contributions of the Black community. This day serves as a powerful reminder for the entire DDSD community to deepen our dedication to freedom, justice, and racial equity.

Construction Closures
Major construction and improvement projects are happening across our campuses this summer. To keep everyone safe, please note the following facility updates:
- Fully Closed for the Summer: Menlo Park, Mill Park, Lincoln Park, Ventura Park, Earl Boyles, Gilbert Park, and Ron Russell Middle School.
There is no public access to these campuses, fields, or parking lots.
Family-Friendly Summer Activities
Looking for ways to keep your kids active and learning over the break? Portland Parks & Recreation is bringing back its Summer Free for All program, offering free lunches and a variety of activities, such as outdoor concerts.
Families can also participate in Multnomah County Library’s summer reading programs to support student learning during the break. Additionally, the library’s My Discovery Pass provides free admission to various local museums and cultural attractions.
These community resources help students stay active, engaged, and connected throughout the summer months.
