The Lasting Impact of the Improvements

It has been two years since the major renovations at Cherry Park Elementary were completed. This milestone was made possible by the dedicated support of our community through the 2022 Bond Measure.

At David Douglas School District, we believe our facilities should reflect the value we place on our students’ education. Thanks to your investment, we successfully delivered the following improvements at Cherry Park:

• Classroom Steam Line Demolition
• Gym HVAC Access
• Fire Alarm System Replacement
• Kitchen Equipment Replacement
• Windows and Sliding Replacement

May 2025

Current Project Status

• Current Project Status:
  • Air-Conditioning startup is complete. Team is actively working through system commissioning.
  • Team is working to complete final punch list items.

February 2025

• Project is substantially complete, and team is working on punch list items and project closeout items. 
• Electrical Upgrades were completed over winter break.
• With completion of electrical upgrade scope of work, HVAC commissioning is now underway. 
• Air-Conditioning start-up is scheduled for spring break.

January 2025

Project Updates

HVAC contractor did work over break. Low-voltage electrical should be working over the week to finish up their outstanding items. Commissioning will start at the end of the month and run through the end of spring break. There are still some outstanding items, like a flooring fix and brick sealing, that will occur in spring break.

  • Project is substantially complete, and team is working on punch list items and project closeout items. 
  • Electrical Upgrades are scheduled for winter break.
  • Air-Conditioned space scope scheduled for spring break.

Dear Cherry Park Elementary Families,

We want to take a moment to sincerely thank all of you for your support in voting for the 2022 Bond Measure for the David Douglas School District. Your investment in our schools is making a real difference, and we are excited to share the progress that has been made.

This summer, Cherry Park Elementary has gone through some important renovations to enhance our learning environment and create a more comfortable space for our students. Here are the key updates:

• Classroom Steam Line Demolition: Outdated steam lines in several classrooms were safely removed, clearing the way for future improvements and modernizing our building’s infrastructure.
• Gym HVAC Access: We’ve also made significant strides in creating access for the installation of a new HVAC system in our gym. Once complete, this system will provide better climate control, ensuring a more comfortable environment for physical education and other activities throughout the year.
• Fire Alarm System Replacement: A new fire alarm system was installed to improve safety and meet current standards.
• Kitchen Equipment Replacement: Kitchen equipment was replaced/renovated as needed to ensure functionality and efficiency in meal preparation.

We are truly excited about these upgrades and what they mean for the future of our school. Thank you once again for your continued support—without you, these improvements wouldn’t be possible. Together, we are creating a better, more enriching learning experience for our students and a stronger future for our entire community.

  • Permits are approved and issued.
  • Repair/Renovation scopes are ongoing; currently, there are no concerns with finishing scopes of work over the summer schedule.
  • No District Staff onsite for duration of summer construction schedule.

May 2024

• Current Project Status –
  • Design/Bid Phase complete.
  • Permits are approved and issued.
  • Bids were received January 11, 2024. Bids were under the target budget and the contract was awarded to Emerick Construction.
  • Pre-Construction meetings are ongoing to assure project success.
  • Ongoing communications with site staff on expectations for summers scopes of work continues.

• Construction scheduled to commence June 2024 and be substantially completed in August 2024
• Target Completion date: August 2024

• Finalizing standards with DDSD stakeholders and the design teams.
