The Lasting Impact of the Improvements

It has been two years since the major renovations at Gilbert Heights Elementary were completed. This milestone was made possible by the dedicated support of our community through the 2022 Bond Measure.

At David Douglas School District, we believe our facilities should reflect the value we place on our students’ education. Thanks to your investment, we successfully delivered the following improvements at Gilbert Heights:

• Main Office Remodel
• Specialist Spaces Remodel
• Window Replacement
• Secure Vestibule Remodel
• Siding and Roofing Replacement

These updates represent a shared commitment to the success and well-being of our students. We are proud to see these improved spaces serving our children and staff every day.

Project Updates

Stops for exterior vestibule glass doors should be done during winter break. A manhole lid needs to be replaced; we are waiting for a date of when the item will arrive. The house demolition is just about complete. The basement backfill should be completed the week of December 1st, and the following
week seeding will occur.

Dear Gilbert Heights Elementary Families,

We would like to sincerely thank you for your support of the 2022 Bond Measure for the David Douglas School District. Thanks to your help, we’ve been able to make critical updates to our school, and we’re excited to share our progress with you. Most importantly, THANK YOU for the patience and support you gave us at the beginning of this school year when we made the difficult decision to delay the start of our school year. 

This summer, Gilbert Heights Elementary underwent several key renovations aimed at enhancing the school’s functionality. Here’s what has been happening:

• Main Office Remodel: The main office has been remodeled to create a more functional and welcoming space.
• Specialist Spaces Remodel: Existing areas have been remodeled to create dedicated spaces for specialists, ensuring targeted support for students.
• Window Replacement: Most metal windows and sealants have been replaced to improve energy efficiency and building protection.
• Secure Vestibule Remodel: The entry has been remodeled to include a secure vestibule, enhancing safety and access control.
• Siding and Roofing Replacement: The building’s siding and portions of the roof have been replaced to ensure long-term durability and weather resistance.

These improvements are important steps toward making Gilbert Heights a better place for learning and growing, and we are grateful for the community’s continued support in making these changes possible.

• Current Project Status –
  • Design/Bid Phase complete.
  • Permit submittal complete – Currently under review with City and anticipate permit approval middle of May 2024.
  • Construction mobilization phase is complete. 
  • Repair/Renovation scopes are ongoing, currently no concerns with finishing scopes of work over the summer schedule.
  • No District is onsite for the duration of the summer construction schedule. 

May 2024

• Current Project Status –
  • Design/Bid Phase complete.
  • Permit submittal complete – Currently under review with City and anticipate permit approval middle of May 2024.
  • Bids were received February 8, 2024 . Bids were a little over the target budget, but other project funds were used to fund the shortfall and Par-Tech Construction is under contract.
  • Pre-Construction meetings are ongoing to assure project success.
  • Ongoing communications with site staff on expectations for summers scopes of work continues

• Construction is scheduled to commence in June 2024 and be substantially completed in July 2026. This scope will be at all educational facilities and will be completed over the next three summers. 
• Target Completion date: Fall of 2024
• Finalizing standards with DDSD stakeholders and the design teams.
