December 2 is Special Education Day!

On this day, we commemorate the 1975 signing of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a landmark moment that guaranteed free and quality education for individuals with special needs.

We also take this opportunity to celebrate our incredible special education staff. Their dedication to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment ensures our students thrive and receive the quality education they deserve.

Winter Weather Procedures

As winter approaches, we want to ensure your child’s safety during their school commute. In the event of severe weather conditions like snow or ice, we may need to delay the start of school or close schools entirely.

When this happens, we will share the information with our community as early in the morning as possible. To ensure you receive communication,

  • Update your contact information: Please ensure your current email address and phone number are on file with your child’s school.
  • Monitor district and school communications: We will share important information and updates through our social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram), the DDSD website, and ParentSquare.

For more information on weather-related closures and emergency procedures, please visit:

By staying informed and prepared, we can work together to keep our students safe during winter weather.
