Meeting Summary: Care & Connect & Guidance

• The meeting opened with introductions from staff, students, parents, and community members, who shared their roles and favorite memories—many highlighting community powwows, youth advocacy, and the successful launch of the Native Studies class. The group reviewed state guidance on Title VI grant requirements, committee bylaws (approved Feb. 2026), and budget realignments to support field trips, tutoring, and mentorship. A key discussion centered on improving communication and inclusivity for families not federally recognized, with emphasis on finding alternative non-Title VI funding sources to better support the broader Native community. Feedback on the committee survey suggested adding check-box options (e.g., tutoring, cultural nights) and exploring barriers to meeting attendance.

Student Union Updates & Shared History

• Updates were shared regarding the Indigenous Student Union (ISU) and the Native Studies class, including a successful “Orange Out” fundraiser by Girls Varsity Soccer that raised $163.00, student participation in the high school club fair, and an upcoming November Board presentation featuring student and teacher speakers. The student union is currently supported under the 21st Century grant, which will fund teacher time outside of work and offer supplies, though future Title VI budget allocations for a student union coordinator will need to be discussed. For the Native Studies course, four formative assessments designed around Universal Design principles are in place, and student feedback will be tracked via a short end-of-semester survey. The group also highlighted the importance of tracking Tribal History/Shared History curriculum integration across district schools.

Native Cultural Night Planning

• The Native Cultural Night is scheduled for November 13th in the high school South Cafeteria, featuring a guest group for drumming and history ($400 honorarium), local food connections, and community partners such as NARA, MultCo Library Indigenous Group, and Free Geek. The committee approved moving forward with 6–8 vending tables—focusing on in-district families and student vendors—alongside hands-on craft activity kits (such as bead keychains or tea blends). Event displays will showcase student union work, a committee history and video display table, and Native Shared History resources. Clarification was provided that fundraising or donation requests must go through the student union, the high school, or a fiscal sponsor rather than the committee directly.

Next Steps & Planning Committee

• A dedicated Cultural Night Planning Committee will convene on November 4th to focus strictly on event logistics. An email will be distributed to connect committee members, share a venue diagram, and establish a shared document to track to-do items. A flyer is currently being designed for the event.

Title VI in DDSD and School Year Goals

• Goals will remain the same
  • Increase Family Engagement 
  • Knowledge of Cultural Identity and Awareness
• Gabriel: Does DDSD have any policies around how we partner with NAPAC and community partners?
  • Policies how this group is ran 
  • Gabriel was comparing NAPAC groups and Federal Grant language – was complicated and found differences 
• Josh: constantly trying to recruit more families 
• There are many funding sources to explore that would support Native  & Indigenous students across the district and not limit to only those who complete the 506 form
• Should gather feedback from families to determine what representation in schools would look like

NAPAC Roles

• DDSD presented three key roles for NAPAC members to consider: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary
• Community input
  • Would like to know what DDSD Policies are in place for how the district partners with NAPAC and community partners 
  • The NAPAC board must be the ones the make decisions regarding NAPAC roles and District is a collaborator
  • Students Representatives should be a key role
    • Should be appointed by Indigenous Student Union, could be President and Vice President  
  • NAPAC should be present at community events such as nearby powwows to connect with families 
• Request to review and discuss NAPAC  bylaws
  • Potentially add student representative to bylaws
• Asked DDSD to send out communication about NAPAC Board positions and express interest
  • Board roles are not required to attend meetings
• Trainings are available for board members

SY 26/27 Events

• Planning committee will meet to begin planning the event 
• DDSD will provide a timeline for when specific event details must be submitted 

ISU & Native Studies Class Updates

• Native Studies Class
  • This is the first year
  • Currently: 2 class periods
    • 30 and 31 students

  • Invitation for NAPAC to utilize a future girls soccer home game to share about NAPAC for outreach and community
    • Ideas
      • During half-time, a performance, statement about celebration and partnership
      • 50 / 50 raffle
